Sports & Activities
Welleslians love their sport but the important thing is that every child is given the encouragement to stretch themselves and develop a love of sport that will last a lifetime.
Historically, girls and boys have achieved significant success in a variety of sports. In cricket the boys have won the JET competition (this is a national competition) on five occasions and the girls were the national U13 rounders champions in 2007 and 2008, becoming the first school to retain the trophy, which we have now won five times. The U11s were national rounders champions in 2006. Pupils have also been winners in the IAPS squash championships and in 2007 a Wellesley pupil won the Stowe Putter (National Prep Schools Golf Tournament).
Children at Wellesley participate in a very wide variety of sports. The girls play netball, hockey and rounders as the main sports each term. Boys play rugby, soccer and cricket each term and in addition both boys and girls enjoy tennis, squash, golf and swimming.
In the last three years Wellesley pupils have won sports scholarships to King's Canterbury, Lancing, Stowe and Harrow.
In addition to team sports the children are given the chance to take part in a number of different activities throughout the week, typically shooting, fencing, modelling, carpentry, riding, sailing, cookery, chess, judo, archery and dance.
By involving themselves in such a wide variety of games and activities Wellesley children become busy, purposeful people.
